Do you follow the cycles of the Moon? I believe we as humans are naturally drawn to the Moon and have always been fascinated by it. Can you imagine what it must’ve been like thousands of years ago, looking up and seeing this massive orb in the sky that changes over time but eventually returns? To begin understanding the cycles of the Moon? To begin working with these cycles, planting on the New Moons and harvesting on the Full Moons? I’ve always been attracted to and felt a connection with the Moon. I do believe it is human nature and another part of what connects us all. But for me, it’s more than that.
My Sun is in Cancer and Cancer is ruled by the Moon. Perhaps that’s why I’ve always felt the pull. However, as I grow older and am exploring my spirituality and practicing my craft, I really want to dig deeper. I am feeling the need to begin tracking my moods and experiences along with the Moon’s phases to see if there are any parallels. I am also beginning to track my menstrual cycle with the Moon. It’s getting weird in here, these days, and I am here for it!
The Moon cycles begin with the dark New Moon. New Moons always occur in the same sign that the Sun is in. In astrological terms, the Moon is conjunct with the Sun. Conjunctions are when two planets (I realize the Sun and Moon aren’t planets but for the sake of this explanation I am referring to them as such) sit at or very close to the same degree in the sky. The Sun is currently in Libra. The last New Moon was in Libra as well. From that point, the Moon has been growing (or waxing). New Moons are times to plant new intentions. As the Moon grows, it becomes full. During Full Moons we can harvest what we planted and can release what is no longer serving us.
Today, the Moon is exactly full at 5:07 pm EST. Full Moons occur when the Moon is in the opposite sign from where the Sun is. Because the Sun is currently in Libra, the Full Moon is in Aries. Each sign in the zodiac has its polarity. There is always something we can learn from the balance of the two. After this Full Moon, it will wane until the next New Moon, which is in the next sign, Scorpio.
If you want to dive even deeper into Moon cycles, look back to the Aries New Moon, which occurred 6 months ago. What intentions were you setting around that time? How have you grown in the last 6 months? What have you learned and what can you let go of?
